Gettin' a little loopy

Monday, September 1, 2008

I just started playing around with Fruity Loops Studio, which to me is just about the dumbest name any software program can have, but I have to say it's about the coolest thing ever. It reminds me a lot of Cakewalk, which I used to use about fifteen years ago, but much more feature-rich if a bit more bloated.

I haven't done a whole lot with it yet other than try to learn it. There's a lot to it, but I'm starting to get the hang of patterns and songs, so I'm going to start putting some stuff together and see how it sounds. This makes me very excited. It's not the same as playing instruments themselves, and I've never seen myself as a "producer" who works in loops and samples, but there's a perverse satisfaction in placing notes and listening to the results.

I don't know what's going to come of this, but I'm certainly having fun in the process!
