I wrote "Girl" in the summer of '88 or '89. Loosely and shamelessly based on John Lennon's "Woman." It was originally written piano-based and I more or less rewrote the entire lyrics. I recorded a demo version of the original version back in 1990, and the tape was lost for many years. I recently found it, but it's so awful I wish I could just lose it again.
Girl, how do I express
You bring me joy and happiness
And girl, the things you do
The way I feel, you make it true
How did I survive
Before you came into my life
But now you're in my dreams
It's better, baby, than it seems
And you taught me how to get it under control
And everything that I needed to know
Girl, you mean so much
It seems forever until we touch
And girl, what you bring to me
I will treasure for eternity
And you taught me how to get it under control
And everything that I needed to know
Girl, I cannot express
The way you took away my loneliness
And girl, it's in the stars
There's no better love than the love of ours
