I started writing this for my girlfriend in March or April of '91, and got as far as the first verse and chorus and then got stuck. I wrote the rest about a month before recording commenced. I made up the intro in the studio, and the piano track was laid in one take. I particularly like the solo on this one, since I'm not really a guitarist.
You can say goodbye
You can close your eyes and cry
You can shed the tears
Darling, I will wipe them dry
You can make believe that it's not true
But in the morning you'll wake up
And you'll know, darling I loved you
And it's never too late for love
Darling you should know no matter where you go
It's never too late
And it's never too late for love
Darling can't you see that it will never be
Too late, too late for love
You can let it grow
You can tear yourself in two
You can lose control
Darling, I am here for you
You can make believe that it's not true
But in the morning you'll wake up
And you'll know, darling I loved you
Can't you tell from the look upon my face
That I don't want to see you go
Maybe someday love will find a way
But until that day remember what we shared
Darling, I cared
You can look away
You can search the dark for light
You can feel the cold
Darling I will hold you tight
You can make believe that it's not true
But in the morning you'll wake up
And you'll know, darling I loved you
