A funny story behind this one... I signed up for this talent show to sing "Hey Jude," but the director, his name was Loren, said the song was too long or something, I don't remember, so I didn't make it. I was feeling all down and rejected, so I changed the name to "Lauren" and made a pseudo-love song about being rejected and let down and all that. The similarities to "Hey Jude" (the instrumental build-up, the long "la la" coda) were quite intentional, since that was indirectly the root of the song. So it's also sort of me paying tribute to McCartney.
Lauren,
How could you do this to me
I tried so hard to please you well
I guess you couldn't see
Lauren,
You turned me away from you
You broke the heart inside of me
But now I guess it's true
You never had much faith in me
You used me up and then set me free
I never meant to let you down
I only wanted love
Lauren,
I know it's the same old song
But you say it wasn't good enough
And now you're moving on
Lauren,
You let me slip through your hands
And though I can't see through the tears
I think I understand
I never meant that much to you
You led me on and I never knew
I never meant to let you down
I only wanted love
You never thought that much of me
I was a fool who couldn't see
I never meant to let you down
I only wanted love
Lauren,
How could you treat me so bad
I threw away so many things
You were all I had
Lauren,
How could you let me go
After I gave my all to you
Why don't you let me know
Your rationale for treating me
Like a fool who couldn't see
I never meant to let you down
I only wanted love
La la la la la, I only wanted love
La la la la la, I only wanted love
La la la la la, I only wanted love
La la la la la, I only wanted love
La la la la la, I only wanted love
