Talkin' turkey and other musings

Monday, December 8, 2008

Whoops, looks like I've fallen asleep at the wheel yet again. Must've been all that turkey (claims to the contrary notwithstanding). On the whole Thanksgiving went well, despite the minor gravy disaster, but a few turkey sandwiches later and I find I really didn't care. Actually, the turkey was gone by Monday, and who needed gravy anyway?

So a belated happy Thanksgiving, and an early merry Christmas. There: I said it, now I don't have to worry about or wait until February to get around to it.

It's not like there's really all that much going on. Christmas presents are already bought and wrapped (done before Black Friday, thank you very much). Tree and other assorted decorations are out. There's no snow to shovel (yet) and to hell with the leaves in the yard. Days are spent at work, and evenings and weekends are for beer, relaxing and some more beer. So I just don't have the time, folks.

(Speaking of beer, we did try the Jack's Pumpkin Spice Ale for Thanksgiving. I'd like to give it a glowing review, but I really didn't find it all that spicy — in the cinnamon and cloves kind of way — or pumpkiny. In fact, it tasted like a decent dark beer, but I don't think I could call it great. Plus four of the six bottles overflowed when I opened them. Fortunately, the dog likes beer. I will give props to Michelob's Lime Cactus brew. Very tasty.)

So with Thanksgiving behind us the only real obstacle ahead (aside from keeping the kids out of trouble, which isn't so much an obstacle as an impossibility) is Christmas dinner. Guess we'll have to try the gravy again, but I'm not sure what kind goes with ham. Oh dear.
