M-I-C... see ya real soon!

Having failed up til now to document our mouse-catching escapades, it's with great, if morbid, pleasure I present photographic evidence of our most recent quarry.   Read More →

Talkin' turkey and other musings

Whoops, looks like I've fallen asleep at the wheel yet again. Must've been all that turkey (claims to the contrary notwithstanding). On the whole Thanksgiving went well, despite the minor gravy disaster, but a few turkey sandwiches later and I find I really didn't care. Actually, the turkey was gone by Monday, and who needed gravy anyway?   Read More →

Good night, Mus musculus

Admittedly, there was a brief time we thought maybe the dog was going insane. It was slightly reminiscent of that Far Side comic where one dog says to the other, while the owner, blissfully unaware, reads the paper: "Watch... Growling and bristling, I'll stare at the closet door."   Read More →

Don't drink the water

So once again time goes by and next thing I know it's been a couple weeks since my last post. And there have been plenty of things I could have written about: the election, the cut on my foot, my mother-in-law, our movie marathon weekend (well, I might still... but I doubt it).   Read More →

Mr. Fangs, we hardly knew ye

I would've posted a photo sooner of this year's pumpkin, but we didn't get around to carving until last night. I know, that's like not trimming the tree until Christmas Eve, but hey, according to movies of the Victorian era, that's when they did it anyway. And it's not so much a waste if the display sticks around several weeks past its freshness date.   Read More →

The breaking news is broken

Thanks be to Jason P. for sending this in. I've posted stuff like this before, but it never gets old. The title pretty much says it all, but definitely good for a chuckle.   Read More →

Do svidanya, Dr. Jones

In honor of the release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on DVD today, I thought I'd share a few thoughts on the movie. I expect there'll be some spoilers here, so if you haven't seen it yet and care, read on at your own risk.   Read More →

Tales from the emergency room

I was at emergency room for the second time in a week this weekend. Now that I have your attention, it's actually all pretty much mundane. On the plus side, the second time around I knew I wanted to hit that coffee machine with the French vanilla.   Read More →

Get it while it's — splat!

Last night we took the kids to what is arguably our favorite Chinese buffet restaurant. And it's our favorite not just for the food, because there always seems to be a wealth of signs and other sights that just begged to be photographed. Sadly, nine times out of ten we go there, we don't take the camera. (Good Lord! Do we really go there that often?!)   Read More →

Being sick really sucks

So once again here it is a couple weeks since the last post, and I come limping back with my tail between my legs. So many things I was going to post about, too: how the HLC is actually the fulfillment of apocalyptic prophesy, Ike's post-storm fury, how apocalyptic prophesy will probably be fulfilled by the downfall of the western financial industry, the dog's new "toy." Instead it ends up being much more mundane.   Read More →
